Vitamin D RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) in IU/day
Enter your age to estimate your daily vitamin D recommended daily allowance (RDA) using standard US guidelines (IU/day). If applicable, select pregnancy/breastfeeding and limited sun exposure. Results update automatically and include the RDA and the adult upper limit (UL).
Methods & assumptions
We use standard US vitamin D recommended daily allowance (RDA) thresholds in IU/day. RDA is the daily amount recommended for most people. The adult upper limit is the maximum daily intake unlikely to cause harm for most adults.
How we calculate
If pregnant/breastfeeding: 600 IU/day. Else if age 71+: 800 IU/day. Else: 600 IU/day.
- Age 1 to 70:600 IU/day (RDA)
- Age 71+:800 IU/day (RDA)
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding:600 IU/day (overrides age)
- Adult upper limit:4,000 IU/day (UL)
Limited sun exposure adds an advisory note only (the RDA does not change).
Units: This tool uses IU/day (international units per day). Some supplements list micrograms (mcg): 1 mcg = 40 IU.
